No need to worry

Yes I made it to the big city. Im living in the bad part of town. At least it smells really bad because there is a sewage plant nearby. You dont have to see it to know its there. This may not be the worst slum but it probably ranks up there. The area we patrol is inhabited by shiites. Im sure they are happy since they won the majority of elections. Its been pretty relaxed around here with not much happening, almost like we never left home. Gunfire is heard every now and then but its usually because of a wedding, birthday, pay day, whatever. They fire their AK-47s in the air to celebrate almost anything. The weather has remained outstanding, 60s, and sunny. Its kind of like the beach without the water. There is a religious holiday, observance, (Sheena?), coming up this month that is supposed to involve self mutilation. The food in the dining facility is incredible, provided by gulf catering and KBR. They served steak and shrimp on the second night here. Im not sure what the army cooks do but its seems they dont have a job for now. Im living in a room with 6 other guys, 2 sets of bunks beds, and one triple stacker health hazard that I designed to make extra space. Its laughable to see all of us sleeping on it. Ill be sure to post a picture when i get the chance. It will thin out as soon as the other guys go home. You can definately tell whos coming and going. They, the ones going home, were throwing the football around and grilling on the barbecue because its only 7 more days for them.

Chris, I was so glad to see a note from you--I have a very vivid imagination, so this helps settle it down somewhat! Sounds like you are leading a very interesting life! We will continue to pray for you--stay alert and safe!

Hey Chris,
Really glad to hear you are doing ok. We are all thinking of you and hope you stay safe. Leave it to you to find the excitment and adventure wherever you go.
It's kind of nice in Kansas. Sunny but a little chilly. Supposed to have more rain and snow later this week. You want us to send you some COLD snow! ha ha
Be careful. Love, Colleen & Mike

Hi Jackie,
Tell Chris that we’re all thinking of him everyday and to keep his vest on tight! It’s important for him and the guys over there to know that we are always thinking of them and they are doing a great job kickin’ ass.
