Iraqi Soldiers

Hi, All. Chris emailed me these photos of Iraqi soldiers to post for him. I also asked him what BIF stood for. It stands for Base Interogation Facility. Chris said that the person he referred to in his last post was not anyone particularly special.

BIF

We drove into the green zone today and the modern civilization was a nice change of scenery. This is where the hotel district is located and most of the news reporters. There wasnt garbage everywhere and the people looked like they had better things to do instead of staring at us. We had to pick up a prisoner who was wanted on our base for questioning. He was captured a couple days earlier on one of our routes after firing at coalition forces. After being hit in the leg from return fire he was transported to the green zone to be hospitalized. A large wad of U.S. cash was found on him at the time of his aprehension. On the way back he rode in my humvee and I can say that no one humiliated him or desecrated his religious book. I saw the new star wars last night. It was on an editors copy and had the numbers running at the top the whole time but minus that it was good.

Hello All
Ive been trying to send some photos of us with the new Iraqi army but Im having some trouble with the "hello from picassa" software. It decided to stop working for me. There was an explosion in the population of flys over night. I think the rain might have helped. So we've been having fun with an electric fly swatter. It runs on batteries and zaps the flys when they get caught in the wire. It doesnt get as many kills as the regular manual swatter but it passes the time. Here is a joke for the day.
Two muffins were being baked in the oven when one muffin turns to the other and says "it sure is getting hot in here!" and the other one quickly says "What the hell? A talking muffin!".

rogue rally day

The battalion is declaring today a holiday, rogue day. Several sports brackets were created for everybody to get involved in the game of their choice. My mandatory fun time was spent in the foosball tournament. The other events included 3 on 3 basketball, 3 position M-16 range, motorpool olympics, ironman apft, dominoes, ultimate frisbee, 4 on 4 volleyball, and billiards. Tonight the day will be ended with a music concert.

Chris Featured in the Lawrence Journal World

Hi, Everyone. Belated Happy Birthday to Chris, who turned 26 last Saturday. In the last week, I have been in touch with Mr. Bill Snead, Senior Editor of the Lawrence Journal World (this link will take you to information about Mr. Snead and his work, which is really cool). He has arranged for Chris' photo to be published on the front page of the Lawrence Journal World website. LJW is the hometown paper of Lawrence, Kansas. Visit www.ljworld.com to see Chris' pic (you may have to scroll down on the page once you get there), and then if you click on Chris' photo, the link will take you to the "Our Troops At War" Photo Gallery where you can see some of Chris' other blog photos as well as photos from other soldiers. Neat stuff. The photo below is one that Chris posted back in March. I thought the folks at the Lawrence Journal World would appreciate seeing Chris reading the local paper.

PS. We offer a hearty thank-you to Mr. Bill Snead and the Lawrence Journal World!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Pain, Pain, Pain you are a real cornhusker kid. Oh, Lord the memory is always fresh for me. God gave me a brunette thick hair baby boy. Weight 9-8, Length 54, Time 1515. Your OB Doctor was Dr. Chupp, Peds Dr. Young. You are a big healthy American baby boy. Thank you God. You like to eat steak, lobster, burgers and hotdogs and you like to drink milk, orange juice and water. You were born at Offutt A.F.B. Nebraska Hospital May 14, 1979. You have a five year degree in medical. Now you are fighting a war in Baghdad. As a mother it isn't easy to think about my son in the middle of a war. Oh God, please help me keep my son healthy, happy and strong. Protect him from danger. Amen

I hope your birthday was happy!

I pray for your safe return.

Love you a lot, Mom.

Its Mothers Day

Hello Everyone
We have some big ol spiders running around the room. They are not poisonous but they are hard to catch and kill, deceptivley fast. The past couple weeks attacks have been up. Iraqi on Iraqi violence has everything blowing up, cars, police stations, roads. Last night we transported a dead civilian to the police station. He was threatining some iraqi army guys and they lit him up. By the time we got there it was just a bloody mess. I have the day off and it is going well, went to the coffe shop, drank some tea and watched some tv, saw the kentucky derby was starting. The afternoon gets hot enough that nobody wants to leave the air conditioned building, so we are going to start giving each other classes. Today the first class is going to be on "how to give a class". Happy Mothers Day Mom.
