turkey for me turkey for you

Happy Thanksgiving! Good morning America showed up to the camp to video the turkey consumption and give soldiers a chance to say hello to families back home. If you were up early enough to watch the morning news you might have caught me. The chow hall had the proper holiday fare with the exception of no crown royal. I watched part of the Macys parade on the television while I was eating dinner. It looked like the M&Ms float injured a few people. The time is getting closer to leaving the country. Everybody is excited to finish the last five weeks of deployment. The days are getting shorter with the sun setting a little after 5 pm. The mission tempo has been slow. It seems I only go out every other day now. Relief should be taking place near the middle of December. Well I hope everyone had a good day, packed on some pounds, and enjoyed the egg nogg. nov

It has been a couple weeks since the last post. Everything is moving along quickly right now. Since the last blog I’ve worked at the UN compound, did a few patrols around here, and now I’m doing my share of the gate guard at the base. Yesterday we packed half of our belongings in the containers that will be taken back by ship. It was nice getting that out of the way and seeing it leave. Some people will be going home in the middle of December. I’m scheduled to leave on the 2nd of Jan. We were told that some of the zones we patrol will be taken over by Iraqi forces instead of US. This is good news. I have not been to sh*t city in a very long time but that piece of turf of course will be happily handed over. The weather here has turned really nice and will probably remain so until we leave. It definately gets cold at night now and Ill be wearing a sweater on the late shift.
